TRIP HOME

We pulled out of the park at 7:30 Sunday morning. Rather than drive over to Fairfield and take I45 NW to Dallas, we took Texas 14 to Corsicana and then meandered our way to the NE until we picked up I30 just west of Texarkana. It was interstate highway from then on. There were a couple of potential stopping points east of Little Rock (the camp/RV pickings are very slim unless you want to drive 20-30 miles off the highway. We had made such good time that we opted to move on to a place (RV parking by a Super 8) near West Memphis Arkansas. We did pull off and get right back on. The rains had made the place a muddy mess. We made it through Memphis and ended up spending the night at an old KOA that was part of a big mobile home park. Really didn’t want to drive on through Memphis during Monday morning rush!

The price was right and it was nearly 5:30 and we were ready for a break. The spot, however, was not a good one for connecting utilities. Right at the back of the Cougar was a big mud puddle and right in the middle of it was the sewer connection. We did manage to connect the water and electric and figured we could dump at the next campground.

Daylight came a little earlier on Monday so we hit the road at 6:30. It only took a few minutes to get on I40 and head toward Nashville. As is the custom we had several locations in mind for overnight stops. But we were making such good time that to stop before we hit Louisville would make a long evening so we pushed on. Our next plan was to stop at Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton. As we crossed into Ohio on 75/71 Ester (the voice in our GPS unit) was guiding us. As we drove she kept trying to get me to take an exit, but there was so much construction it just would not work. Before long we realized we were only a few miles from I70. Judy suggested that we stop for a good meal and then just drive on home. So that is what we did. We pulled into a Cracker Barrel near Springfield, took Lilly for a walk and then ate. We were back on the road before 6:30 and at 9PM on Monday we were backing in at 2020 Tricaso. So that was the long drive home!
